A Mvuma farm worker committed suicide by hanging from a tree allegedly after being angered by his workmates when they asked him to reduce the volume of his radio.
Incensed by his workmates' directive, the now deceased man, Asel Homerai (26) reportedly sneaked out of his bedroom hut soon after complying with the order and was allegedly found hanging from a tree at the backyard of the farm compound.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday.
He said investigations into the circumstances surrounding Homerai's sudden death were underway.
"The circumstances are that during the early hours of Sunday, Asel Homerai (26) who was employed as a farm worker at Central Estates in Mvuma was listening to music from his radio while relaxing in his bedroom when his workmates asked him to lower the volume of the radio," he said.
Insp Mahoko said an argument arose between Homerai and another workmate over the radio's volume as the now deceased man initially declined to lower the volume.
"The argument was resolved and Homerai lowered the volume. On the following morning, another farm worker who had gone to relieve himself discovered Homerai's body hanging from a tree at the yard of their compound. The matter was reported to the police who attended to the scene.
"The body of the deceased was taken to Mvuma Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem. We appeal to members of the public to seek advice from third parties whenever they are involved in arguments," he said.
In an unrelated incident, a 29-year-old man died on the spot after he fell from the loading box of a moving truck.
Insp Mahoko said the incident occurred on Sunday at about 6pm along a gravel road in Silobela.
"Richard Sandura of Musina Village, Chief Malisa was seated on the edge of a moving T35 truck when he fell headlong. He was run over by the right rear wheels of the truck after he fell to the ground and died on the spot," he said.
