A dad slashed the throats of his three children and jumped to his death after his wife dumped him.
Ceri Fuller from the UK killed Samuel, 12, Rebecca, eight and Charlotte, seven, days after Ruth told him their marriage was over, an inquest has heard.
The coroner was told Ruth had developed a "schoolgirl crush" on her lecturer.
Injuries to Samuel and Rebecca's hands showed they bravely tried to fight off their crazed father, according to harrowing evidence at the hearing.
But Fuller killed all three and dumped their bodies in woodland before he jumped 60ft off a cliff at a quarry.
Days before the tragedy, Ruth, 34, wrote online about having a "completely bonkers" midlife crisis after falling for lecturer Mark Lindley-Highfield.
She had tuition with him as she was studying for an Open University humanities degree.
On the day the children disappeared on July 12 last year, Ruth tried to take her own life and was admitted to casualty.
At one point she woke up on a ward in the early hours and told her sister Joanna, "I think Ceri killed Rebecca".
Joanne said:"They were a very loving couple. There had been a violent incident back when they first got together but it was a long time ago.
"Ceri liked to be the breadwinner in the family and Ruth's role was to be the mum.
"He was very possessive and she could be very flirty and this could cause problems.
"I never saw Ceri act aggressively towards the children."
Before Ruth went to hospital, Joanne said she went to her sister's home in Milkwall, Gloucestershire.
She said: "When I arrived there were two uniformed officers in the house. Ruth looked in an edgy state.
"Nobody knew where Ceri and the children were but the police weren't worried as they were with their father."
The bodies were found on July 16 at Poles Coppice near Shrewsbury, Shropshire – 75 miles from their home.
