A goat thief who was caught red handed and beaten by villagers in Woolandale has been remanded on his hospital bed at Mpilo Central Hospital in Zimbabwe.
Tamuka Maphosa sustained a fractured arm and leg during the beating.
Maphosa was apprehended by the villagers who set a trap after realising that their goats were disappearing.
He appeared before Commonage Magistrate Mr Willard Maphios Moyo facing two counts of stocktheft, one involving a cow and another of two goats.
He was remanded in custody to 28 August.
There are two complainants in the matter who are Usa Manatse and Veronica Nkomo, both of whom are plot holders in Woolandale.
Fiona Ncube, for the state told the court that on 3 July Maphosa went to Manatse's plot and stole a cow valued at $300.
He is said to have slaughtered it at night and went away with the meat.
The meat was not recovered.
The court heard that again on 28 July Maphosa stole two goats from Ms Nkomo's plot.
He allegedly slaughtered them in the bush but ran out of luck when alert villagers cornered and beat him before handing him to the police.
The value of the two goats was $100 and was recovered.
