A serial rapist allegedly tried to attack Jane Koko on Wednesday but she fought him off and when neighbours came to her rescue, they found a pair of pink panties in his pocket.
The 23-year-old woman from Chris Hani kasi, Mangaung in the Free State, SA, told Daily Sun: "He came to my house and told me that he loved me and wanted me to be his girlfriend.
"I told him I wasn’t interested and I left him at my gate and went into my house."
But the man allegedly followed her into her house and bedroom, where he pushed her onto the bed and tried to rape her.
"I fought him with all the strength I had. I kicked him and screamed for help," said Jane.
The neighbours heard Jane and rushed to her house. The man was then beaten to a pulp by the angry residents.
When the SunTeam arrived at the scene, the man was stripped and covered in blood.
His hands and feet were tied with rope. In his pocket, they found pink panties.
A woman who refused to be named told Daily Sun that the underwear was hers and the man had raped her three days earlier.
"After raping me, he said he would keep my panties as a trophy," said the young woman before quickly disappearing into the crowd.
Police spokeswoman Constable Mosili Ntsika said the suspect was taken to Pelonomi Hospital, where he was placed under
police guard.
"The 32-year-old man was charged with attempted rape.
"The woman’s underwear was booked in for exhibit and will be sent for DNA testing," she said.
