A thief has been caught by police after being identified on camera raiding the premises of a CCTV company.
The thief failed to spot the high-tech lens perched on the front of the house.
The not-so-bright thief committed the robbery despite the company's van being parked outside with details of its work emblazoned on the side.
He stole ladders owned by Barrie Smith, who installs security cameras for a living. Not surprisingly, Smith's business premises are rigged with high-quality monitoring devices.
Smith, 35, posted the video clip of the raid on Facebook with an appeal for information - and the crook was identified within 24 hours.
The father-of-two said: "I was getting my van ready to go out on a job and went to put the ladders on the roof, but they weren't there.
"I went straight to my CCTV and looked back through, and there he was, plain as day, helping himself.
"He was not a very good thief. His clothing has some really big logos on, and he looked straight at the camera. He could not have been more obvious."
Barrie called the police, but also posted the video on Facebook, offering a reward and asking people to share the clip and contact him with information.
It took just one day for the volunteer lifeboat officer to receive a text message with an address for the suspect.
Cops visited the house and found the man wearing the same clothes spotted in the CCTV - a le coq sportif hoodie with a huge logo - and discovered the ladders stashed in his garden.
The man was arrested and issued with a police caution, which could mean further action is taken if he gets in trouble again.
