A second man accused in the brutal gang-rape of a five-year-old girl in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar, India, has told police that he raped the minor even when she was unconscious after being assaulted by his friend Manoj Kumar Sah.
Pradeep said the girl lost consciousness and was bleeding heavily after Manoj assaulted her.
Pradeep said the incident was the "biggest mistake" of his life, an investigating officer said.
Pradeep and Manoj both consumed liquor twice between 4 pm and 7 pm on April 15 - the day they assaulted the minor girl in Manoj's room.
He said that Manoj had asked him to strangle the girl to death, as they feared she would tell her parents about the crime and they would be caught.
"Pradeep was so terrified that he could not muster the courage to kill the hapless girl and in fact lied to Manoj that he had strangled her to death. But to ensure that she dies, Manoj tried to slash the girl's throat with a blade," the officer added.
Thinking they were successful in killing the innocent girl, they locked the room and went to New Delhi Railway Station from where they boarded Swatantrata Senani Express and left Delhi around 8.30 pm.
The girl remained in the room without food, water or medical care for over 40 hours before she was rescued.
"As a professional criminal, Manoj switched off his mobile phone and began using his wife's phone.
He advised Pradeep not to contact anybody in Delhi, as he knew that police would track them through mobile phone call records," the officer said.
The police are trying to recover Pradeep's phone which contains porn video clips, which the duo had watched before coming to Manoj's room at Gandhi Nagar and committing the dastardly crime.
Earlier, shifting all the blame on his friend Pradeep, Manoj had told the police that it was Pradeep who brutalised the minor girl while he remained a bystander.
But his bluff was called soon after his friend was also caught.
