Oscar Pistorius faces two more gun charges

JOHANNESBURG - Prosecutors in South Africa on Tuesday confirmed the centralisation of charges against Olympic and Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head Mxolisi Nxasana reportedly turned down attempts by defence lawyers to try and block the two additional gun-related charges.
According to EWN, Tuesday's decision means Pistorius will now face two more charges, of reckless and negligent discharge of a firearm, when he goes to trial in March.
Pistorius is accused of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his Pretoria East home on Valentine's Day.
He claims he mistook her for an intruder.
The additional charges relate to an incident at a Tasha's restaurant at Melrose Arch in January and another when he allegedly shot through a car's sunroof last year.
Pistorius's legal team had been opposed due to jurisdiction issues.
Lawyers say the two separate incidents took place in Johannesburg and not Pretoria.
But Nxasana has agreed to the centralisation nonetheless.
The NPA's Nathi Mncube says this will speed up the process.
"At the end of the day, I think it will work for Mr Pistorius because it's going to be convenient to have all his cases against him heard in one court. Obviously, for the state, it's a good thing because then we don't have to spread the witnesses across two different courts."
