The suicide of former Joyous Celebration 10 member Emmanuel Motubatsi has shocked music lovers.

The singer, who was popularly known as SK, took his life on Wednesday on what was his 31st birthday.

SK's sister and family spokeswoman, Anna Madikologa, said: "He was fine. We asked everyone who spoke to him on his birthday if he had said anything, but they said he was fine.

"He left a note for his mother asking for forgiveness and nothing more,"

She said the family was puzzled by what could have led him take his own life.

Many messages of condolence have been posted on his FaceBook page since Thursday.

SK's former manager, Bongani Cele said his death was a tragic loss which has left them all shocked and sad.

"He had such a big personality. When I spoke to him last week he was fine. He didn't show any sign of sadness," Cele said.

Jabu Hlongwane, co-owner of Joyous Celebration, said SK was a talented singer.

"He made a powerful contribution during the time he was part of Joyous Celebration. We were planning to invite him to one of our Joyous Celebration Rewind shows."

SK is survived by his daughter Tshepiso. A funeral service will be held this Saturday at his home at 238 block EF in Soshanguve, Tshwane, from 6.30am.
