JOHANNESBURG - The Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius' family said on Thursday while he's been out running on a number of isolated occasions he has found it very difficult and has struggled immensely to leave his uncles' house.
Pistorius' family issued a statement on Thursday after a photograph of Pistorius running on a track at the University of Pretoria was published.
Pistorius was arrested on Valentine's Day following the shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
His family said they are encouraging him to start exercising as they believe it is a vital step in helping him deal with the trauma.
In their statement the family said the Blade Runner remains extremely traumatised and has made it clear he is not willing or able to contemplate training.
The family confirmed Pistorius has been out running on a few occasions since his bail conditions were relaxed.
They said it will be up to Oscar whether or not he wants to begin an official training programme.
The family said a meeting was held with the athlete on Wednesday, where his relatives urged him to return to the track to help "stabilise" him.
