15-year-old boy robs bank at gunpoint

A teenager, who has been described as a 'model student', made off with more than £2,000 after threatening terrified staff at a Barclays bank with an imitation firearm.
He sat impassively in the dock as he was sentenced to 40 months in a young offenders' institution at Liverpool crown court yesterday.
Covering his face with a scarf, he ordered a frightened cashier to fill up a bag up with money, telling them: 'Don't do anything stupid. I have just got out of prison after five years.'
He was turned over to the police two days later when his mother found the money and firearm while tidying his room.
'However innocent you look now, as you sit in your smart suit, you did not look innocent when you held up bank staff at gunpoint and terrified them,' said Judge Clement Goldstone QC as he passed sentence.
'It was your mother who bravely and in a remarkable display of public spirit decided to take you to the police station, despite you pleading with her not to.'
Theresa Loftus, defending, said the boy's family were 'hard-working, decent members of society' who were 'devastated' by the boy's crime.
District Judge Ian Lomax added: 'It's a bizarre, surreal case of a young man almost acting like a real-life action video game.'
