Nkosinathi Nxumalo (45) slept with the body of his girlfriend for two days after killing her.
When friends and family members asked him where she was, he said she had moved to her parents' home after a fight.
But in reality, he was figuring out how to get rid of Lindiwe Ngewenya's (46) body.
Nxumalo - known as the Tomato Killer because he planted the vegetables over his girlfriend's grave - was yesterday found guilty of culpable homicide in the South Gauteng High Court sitting in Palm Ridge, Ekurhuleni.
Speaking through his lawyer, Nxumalo said he and Lindiwe had had a fight at their home in Braamfischerville, Soweto, on 11 August last year after he returned home from a drinking session.
He said he couldn't remember what weapon he used to kill her.
"I was too drunk to remember. I just saw a huge gash on her forehead the next morning," he said.
"I slept with her body in the same bed. I was facing the other direction but one day the stench became too much and I decided to get rid of it."
