Mandla Shabalala (20) from Umlazi, south of Durban, SA, claims he was dumped by his 10 girlfriends and every other woman he proposed love to spat in his face.
He says got a powerful love potion and suddenly he was surrounded by gorgeous girlfriends but when the potion wore off it started torturing him.
Mandla started using the muthi last year in grade 12 because there was fierce competition for female attention.
"Each one of us wanted to have the highest number of girls.
"The winner was supposed to have at least 20 beautiful girlfriends by the end of the year.
"I went to a traditional healer in town and he gave me a sticky substance to smear on my eyebrows and a powder to mix with water and drink."
For four months Mandla was the leader in sex race, but then the muthi apparently turned against him.
He told Daily Sun he met a beautiful woman in town last year, but she was not interested.
"She shouted at me and spat in my face. I walked away in shame while a crowd of people laughed at me," he said.
Since then he has not had a single girlfriend.
"I blame peer pressure because I never had problems with women before," he said.
He went back to the inyanga, who told him he must pay R7000 ($700) and a cow to cure him.
"I stole R2000 at home and paid him and he said it wasn't enough.
"Now I feel weak and dizzy and sometimes I feel something is wrong with my mind.
"I'm afraid his muthi is going to kill me.
"I've been admitted to hospital twice for depression."
The Nigerian traditional healer, Alisha Ouma, admitted he had a love potion but denied that Mandla came to him.
When Daily Sun asked to meet him and see his practice certificate, he hung up the phone.
Sazi Mhlongo, president of the KZN Traditional Healers Assocation, said it was bad enough that people still consult foreign traditional healers.
"It is very difficult to get rid of the foreign muthi from a person's blood because it consists of herbs or trees that we don't have here in South Africa," he said.
