A party to welcome home Lenah Machete (18) stopped abruptly when a man pulled down his pants and started to relieve himself in full view of everyone.
Then he left but returned later and confessed that he was sent by certain people to bring bad luck to the ceremony.
The party at Odi View in Mabopane, north of Tshwane, was arranged because Lenah had been away for seven months training to become a sangoma (traditional healer).
Her sister, Rosinah (27), said while the gobela was performing a ritual to welcome Lenah home, the stranger arrived looking as if he was in a trance and began relieving himself next to the goat and the sheep.
"The gobela told us not to say anything to him and just keep quiet until he was done," she said.
The man also looked at them and said nothing.
"We watched him for over 30 minutes until a neighbour asked him what he was doing.
"It was then that he came out of the trance and asked people where he was. We tried to ask him what he was doing there but he said nothing, just left the yard and disappeared.
"After three hours he came back and asked my uncle for forgiveness.
"He said people were using him to do bad things to others.
"He said he was sent to make the ceremony go bad and bring bad luck," she said.
Rosinah said after his confession, the mystery man disappeared again.
