A pastor has accused a herbalist of robbing him of R1000 - but the herbalist claims the money was for a concoction for the love-sick pastor.
Herbalist Abdu Abu Baker said pastor William Bardman (37), of the Full Moon Apostolic Church in Taung, Free State, visited the muthi shop seeking help to make him attractive to a girl who sang in his church's choir.
The pastor, on the other hand, denies ever visiting Abu Baker.
"I am a pastor. I preach the Word of God. Abdu grabbed at my pocket and stole my R1 000.
"Now he is trying to chase people away from my church by telling them I use muthi. I have two children and a woman I live with; now my name is being dragged through the mud," said William.
William said he was passing the herbalist's shop when Abu Baker stole his money from his pocket.
"While I was fighting for my money, he sent an evil snake that tried to strangle me. What residents saw was me rolling around on the ground in a life-and-death struggle with the big snake.
"I will never open a case against him, but I will pray that God punishes him one day," said William.
A woman said that she saw Abdu making cuts on the pastor's wrist.
"It was strange to see the pastor rolling around on the ground while the sangoma performed rituals," she said.
Abdu said: "He came to my shop for muthi to get an 18-year-old girl from his church to love him.
"But he expected the potion to work immediately.
"He was back two days later demanding his money back. I refused and now he says I robbed him!"
