A Florida man apparently fatally shot his wife in their home while her 10-year-old daughter was upstairs — and then posted on his Facebook page Thursday a grisly photo of her contorted body, along with a bizarre confession.
Derek Medina, 31, surrendered to authorities Thursday morning, Miami-Dade police said.
Medina tries to exude an air of violence in an Army camouflage vest while holding a knife and gun.
The shocking post on his Facebook page claimed his wife, 26-year-old Jennifer Alfonso, was beating him.
"I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys take care Facebook people you will see me in the news," Medina wrote in his grammar-challenged post, according to multiple reports.
"My wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope u understand me," the post added.
The photo posted on Medina's Facebook page showed a woman in black tights slumped over on her back. Her knees were bent awkwardly and her cheek and arm were bloody. A caption read: "RIP Jennifer Alfonso," and the Facebook account was not taken down for more than four hours, the Miami New Times said.
Police have declared the case a homicide and said they believe Alfonso died of gunshot wounds.
Medina was in custody, and charges were pending, police said, noting that their investigation continues.
His father told TV station WSVN that Medina came to see him about 11 a.m. and admitted to slaying Alfonso. Derek Medina Sr. then drove his son to a police station.
"He came to my house, and all he said was, 'I need to go to the police. I need to turn myself in,' " the father said.
Medina and Alfonso were married for a second time in April 2012, reports said. But Medina Sr. said they had a rocky relationship.
"They were married for three years, and then they got divorced, and they got remarried last year," Medina Sr. said. "They always had some problems."
On his Facebook page, Medina described himself as a property management supervisor and an actor for the Miami-based television drama "Burn Notice." But he was not listed as a cast member online.
The suspect is also apparently a self-published author of self-help books with apocalyptic titles.
In a Facebook post that was as tragic as Medina's post was shocking, Alfonso updated her page Wednesday with a photo of her kissing Medina, the New Times reported.
