A SPURNED woman who tried to seek for answers from her husband when he decided to end their marriage, paid dearly when the man assaulted her leaving her with a swollen eye, a magistrate was told.
Western Commonage magistrate Mr Themba Chimiso heard how on 16 November, Mr Stanley Masuku (43) of House Number 15004 Pumula South, angered by his wife, Ms Sikhathele Mpofu who wanted to know why he was terminating their marriage, brutally punched her.
Prosecuting, Mr Kingston Mukanganwi, told the court that on 16 November at about 3pm, Mr Masuku told his wife that he was no longer interested in her before he ordered her to pack her belongings and leave their matrimonial home.
However, the court was told that when Ms Mpofu asked her husband why he was kicking her out of their home, the question appeared to have worsened his anger as Mr Masuku responded by punching her in the face several times.
"Ms Mpofu asked her husband why he was chasing her out of their home and without saying a word, he fluttered with anger and punched the complainant in the face several times and she sustained a swollen face," said Mr Mukanganwi.
As the punches continued to rain in her face, Ms Mpofu had no choice but to flee to the police station and reported the matter leading to Mr Masuku's arrest.
According to a medical report, Ms Mpofu sustained a swollen left eye and facial bruises as a result of the attack.
Masuku was not asked to plead to assault charges and he was remanded to 9 December on $50 bail.
