As Nelson Mandela lies in a Pretoria hospital bed, a notice has been stuck to the former president's Houghton home from the City of Johannesburg.
The pre-termination notice, dated 1 August, states that Mandela's account is in arrears and that he owes the City R6 468 (US$650), Eyewitness News reported.
City Power could not confirm whether his account is actually in arrears.
It has also not ruled out the possibility that the notice was stuck to the wrong door or is a case of irregular billing.
The Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory says the city should verify its facts, denying that Mandela owed any outstanding amounts relating to services.
Mandela was hospitalised on 8 June.
According to the presidency, the global icon remains in a critical but stable condition and continues to show signs of improvement.
