A Plumtree peasant farmer is in a state of shock after one of his goats gave birth to a kid which he suspects to be male does not have an anus as well as the urinating organ.
The seemingly strange incident occurred at Bhambadzi area, Mbimba village, Zimbabwe on Monday this week.
The owner of the goat, Power Ncube who is brother to leader of a Kalanga music band, Moki's Connection - Moki Ncube said he is still seeking to get answers on the 'misfortune' that befell his goat.
Ncube said the goat kid which they suspect to be male does not have an anus as well as the urinating organ.
"The goat was born on Monday but we only noticed on Wednesday morning that it can't excrete because all places suppose to have openings are closed," Ncube said.
He said they have been trying to get in touch with Plumtree veterinary services department but to no avail.
Ncube ended up piercing the excretion point on his goat.
"I got a bit worried and felt sorry for my goat because it had become evidently in pain and as result I decided to open a hole where I suspected that's where an anus should have been," he said.
Bulawayo veterinary officer, Dr Ndabezinhle Mkhwananzi said such conditions on goats are not a mystery.
"It is a rare condition caused some defects during fetal development. We have attended to such cases but it is very uncommon for an animal to be born without any urinary opening as well as an anus. In a situation where by the goat does not have an anal point, we usually do a surgical operation to correct the anomaly," Dr Mkhwananzi said.
Ncube's goat appears to have a condition called Atresia ani et recti which refers to congenital closure of both the anus and rectum.
It occurs when the anal membrane fails to perforate or disappear. The exterior opening of the intestinal tract is then closed. This can be surgically corrected and if not the animal will die within 7 days or so.
