Residents of Kwamhlushwa, near Malelane in Mpumalanga, SA, beat up prophet Christopher Zwane (46) because they blamed him for their misfortunes.
Before the incident, he didn't know that people were accusing him of evil deeds and of bringing bad luck to the community.
"They stormed my house on Friday evening armed with all sorts of weapons. I was stabbed, stoned, punched, klapped and kicked," said Christopher.
"I could hear them accusing me of being responsible for the deaths in the village and turning residents into failures."
Christopher lost consciousness during the vicious beating. He didn't see the residents helping themselves to his furniture, appliances, groceries and cash and leaving him for dead.
He also didn't see when the match was struck that torched his home.
He woke up in hospital in pain. "I heard the neighbours, who know I can't do any of these things, called the cops and an ambulance," he said. "I believe the rest are just jealous that I make a good living as a healer."
Christopher is recovering from serious wounds at a local hospital.
A villager who did not want to be named said Christopher is dangerous and should be chased out of the village.
"We are all under his spell," he said.
"This man is so evil he makes sure that the government ignores us. This area is not being developed because of him. We cannot even get a cleaning job at the municipality because he has cursed all of us here."
Colonel Leonard Hlathi said cops are yet to take Christopher's statement as he is still in hospital.
"We advise Christopher to lay a charge at the police station as soon as he is discharged," he said.
