Six armed men stormed a house and told the mourners at a night vigil to shut up.
They then picked up the coffin with the body of Joseph Madlala, 54, put it in a pick up truck, and drove off.
Neli Ndelu, 45, Joseph’s stepdaughter, believes her aunt is behind the body snatch.
Joseph died on Valentine’s Day but Neli doesn’t even know if he has already been buried by her aunt.
She told Daily Sun: “My stepfather’s coffin was on the floor when the men, some with guns and knives, stormed in and went straight to the coffin. While we were still in shock, they removed the blanket over the coffin and took the coffin away.”
Neli said her aunt wanted to take the body away last Thursday.
“I refused because before my dad died, he made it clear to me that he wished to be buried next to my mother in Umlazi,” Neli said.
The aunt's daughter, Photo Madlala (47), said: “Neli is making a fool of you.
“She’s not a Madlala – she is a step-daughter.
“She is now married to the Ndelus so I don’t know why she’s interfering in our family matters.
“My mum didn’t steal my uncle’s body. She took his body to give him a proper burial.”
Captain Thulani Zwane said the family should get a court order, and if the body is already buried, it can be exhumed.
