Rapper 50 Cent is facing charges he roughed up his ex-girlfriend and ransacked her California condo during a heated argument last week.
The "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, went berserk inside his ex-girlfriend's Toluca Lake crib on June 23, destroying more than $7,000 worth of property including a TV and chandeliers, the Los Angeles city attorney's office said Wednesday as it filed criminal charges.
Prosecutors declined to identify the victim, but stated she was in a relationship with the MC for three years and bore him a child.
It was rumoured last year that Jackson had a baby with model Daphne Joy, but neither side confirmed the birth.
TMZ was first to report Joy as the alleged victim in the new case.
According to prosecutors, Joy locked herself in a bedroom to escape the meltdown, and that's when Jackson busted down the door and kicked her, causing injury, prosecutors said.
Los Angeles Police officers rushed to the scene and observed smashed chandeliers and broken furniture throughout the residence, a ransacked bedroom closet and the female's clothes thrown all over the floor as well as a broken TV and lamp, according to prosecutors.
Jackson left before police arrived.
"Regardless of perceived celebrity or notoriety, domestic violence is a serious crime, and alleged perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law by this office," City Attorney Mike Feuer said in a statement.
"We will continue to look out for the safety of all victims of domestic violence and seek justice for the alleged crimes," he said.
Jackson, 37, was charged with domestic violence and four counts of vandalism.
If convicted on all counts, he could face up to five years in jail and up to $46,000 in fines.
His arraignment was set for July 22.
The artist's publicist did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In 2008, Jackson's ex-girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins claimed the rapper was behind a fire that destroyed her Long Island home.
The "P.I.M.P." singer was later cleared of suspicion.
