Singer Ntando Bangani says he is possessed by ancestral spirits

South African multi award-winning Afro pop singer Ntando Bangani has told Daily Sun he has amadlozi (ancestral spirits).
This has so far been a closely guarded secret.
Ntando was backstage at a Satmas event in Mahikeng, North West, on Saturday when he started yawning loudly and stretching his body the way sangomas apparently often do.
"Look, I do have amadlozi. I'm cool with it but I don't like talking much about that," he said.
Ntando was in full Xhosa traditional wear and ready to go on stage when he became hysterical.
The stage manager had to bring on another performer to give Ntando time to calm down. But when he went on stage the audience loved his act and sang along to his songs.
His former manager and Satma CEO Nyami Sontomela said: "I used to see him like that whenever he was about to perform but he never mentioned amadlozi.
TS Records boss TK Nciza said he was never told about amadlozi.
Sangoma Mmathabo Mofokeng said: "If you do not perform rituals (phahla) and ask your ancestors to give you time, that could anger them.
"It is very common for singers to have a calling. Most of them use their gifts through music.
"We sometimes see them going into a trance on stage, but it happens mostly when idlozi is awake.
"Ntando need not stop singing as he can heal people in this form.
"The only problem the ancestors will have is if one refuses the calling.
"If you acknowledge them and promise to fulfil their wish, they will allow you to go ahead with your profession."
Other celebs who have apparently had the calling include actresses Shoki Sebotsana, Letoya Mangezi, Baby Cele, actor Bongani Masondo and singer Thiwe.
