Hundreds of Zimbabweans converged at the Stodart Hall, Mbare in Harare for a befitting send-off ceremony for the late servant of the people, Edson Zulu Ncube.
Hundreds of people lined up all roads and filled surrounding grounds at the traditional stop-over to the National Shrine to bid farewell to the late exceptional pioneer politician, Ncube.
As early as 9am the area surrounding Stoddart Hall was full with people from all walks of life with the youths toyi-toying and chanting revolutionary songs.
Mbare Chimurenga Choir was doing what it is well known for, belting out revolutionary pieces reflecting the critical role played by the late Ncube in freeing the country from the shackles of colonialism.
Banners reflecting the life and works of the national hero were also on display, Messages included 'Lasilethela inkululekho', 'Cde Ncube Size 17', 'Go well son of the soil' and 'Principled and Disciplined cadre'.
The arrival of the gun carriage with the body of the late loyal servant of the people, saw the crowds exploding into revolutionary song that rekindled memories of the struggle when Ncube was instrumental in the recruitment of the young people into Zambia for the armed struggle.
Escorting the body was the late national hero's mother, his children and relatives who flanked the casket as it was taken inside the hall.
First to arrive was the Vice President John Nkomo, followed by Joice Mujuru, cabinet ministers and other senior government officials.
President Robert Mugabe, accompanied by the First Lady Grace Mugabe then arrived for the proceedings.
Mugabe led cabinet ministers, service chiefs, legislators, family, relatives and fellow Zimbabweans in the procession to pay their final respects to the late son of the soil.
It was indeed a befitting send-off as all streets and surrounding areas at Stodart Hall were packed to full capacities with others climbing on tower-lights, dura-walls and trees to at least get glimpse of the casket of late national hero as it was taken to the National Heroes Acre for burial.
