A Zimbabwean man, Trevor Chanetsa is due to be deported from the United Kingdom.

Chanetsa, aged 31, came to the UK in September 2002 and claimed asylum on political basis 2 years ago. Chanetsa who has been living in Nottingham was detained when he went to report at the Loughborough reporting centre.

British authorities were due to deport him on May 1 but the flight he was booked on was cancelled thus delaying his deportation. He is currently being held at the Hammond detention centre close to Heathrow airport.

Speaking to this reporter yesterday in Nottingham, Nottingham Zimbabwean Community chairman Regis Manyanya expressed disappointment Chanetsa's impending deportation.

"This is victimisation because it is not safe to return to Zimbabwe especially towards forth coming elections," he said.

He openly criticized authorities and accused the British government of "double standards".

"The British government talks about human rights and equal rights and condemnation of violence so why do they want to deport this young man who will obviously be targeted on his return to Zimbabwe as he is an activist and strong member of the MDC party," he said.

The Zimbabwe Nottingham community network aims at building and integration, empowering the community and fighting forced deportations. The organization also works towards skilling Zimbabweans, addressing destitution and dictatorship in Zimbabwe.

Manyanya is also disgusted by MDC-UK as a political party which he says has not lobbied to try and stop Chanetsa's impending deportation.

"They have not acted in the interests of their member," he said.

"This now confirms that the so-called leaders of the MDC in the UK were not elected in Leeds they were virtually selected, the MDC leadership in Harare are even being lenient in downgrading the status of the MDC UK Assembly to co coordinating committees, if the Sipepa Nkomo report had been made public the majority if not all could not have been in these positions after all" said Manyanya.

There have been cries following the Leeds elections after the party failed to produce reports on individuals Sipepa Nkomo who are being investigated.

Manyanya also highlighted the plight of asylum seekers who fled Mugabe to the UK. He said most of them without papers were living under difficult conditions yet the MDC has not done anything about it.

"It has even become difficult for some asylum seekers to attend MDC meetings as the party in the UK has been infiltrated by CIOs and sons and daughters of powerful Supremes in Zimbabwe," he said.
