A Roman Catholic priest, Father Fidelis Dakwa based at Mukaro Mission in Masvingo will appear in Court on Friday contesting a maintenance case against a 17-year-old orphan who is also a member of the church.
The teenager, Fungai Mushaure who allegedly dropped out from Mukaro Secondary School after falling pregnant when she was in form 3 has filed a maintenance case against Father Dakwa.
When contacted for comment, Father Dakwa vehemently denied the allegations and prophesed ignorance over Fungai's pregnancy.
"I don't know anything, this can be politics. I did not impregnant anyone," said Father Dakwa.
In court papers filed at Gutu court, Fungai is demanding Father Dakwa to pay $124 per month for the upkeep of the child. Fungai stays in Village 4, Mushaviri under headman Mukaro. She insists that the relationship started in 2010.
"I dropped out of school because of him and now he is refusing to take care of his own child," said Fungai.
Fungai is demanding $124 per month for the upkeep of the child.
Meanwhile, ANOTHER Roman Catholic priest from Masvingo, Father John Dzeka last Friday heaved a sigh of relief after the court acquitted him on three counts of rape he was facing for lack of evidence. Father Dzeka (35) was being charged with raping his 19-year-old maid whom he reportedly had sex with on October 18 and 19, 2009.
"The failure to try to resist or raise alarm, as well as make an involuntary report meant that it was consensual sex," ruled Muremba.
While the man of the cloth has been aqcuitted of rape charges, what remains to be witnessed is how the Church will handle such cases, which seem to rampant espacially in Masvingo, where National Aids Council reported that Sexually Transmitted Infection cases are higher than anywhere else in Zimbabwe. National Aids Council further reported that every hour 5 more poeople get infected with sexually transmitted diseases in Masvingo.
