A HARARE court on Monday threw out an application for refusal of further remand by Star FM presenter Munyaradzi Milimo (DJ Munya) who is accused to poisoning to death a love rival.

The Star FM presenter and suspected hitmen, Taurai Jani and Mohammed Matare, wanted the State to proceed by way of summons saying they have been on remand for too long without the trial taking off.

But prosecutor, Sharon Mashavira, opposed the application saying a pathologists report needed to be filed adding the trio faced serious charges and it was not in the interests of justice to set them free.

The trio face charges of kidnapping and poisoning to death one Tinashe Magorimbo for allegedly having an affair with DJ Munya’s wife. They were freed on $300 bail by High Court judge Justice Joseph Musakwa in June.

Prosecutors say Magorimbo was murdered after failing to pay the DJ $5,000 for having an affair with his wife. The radio presenter is said to have engaged Janhi and Matare to deal with Magorimbo after he become evasive over the balance, having only paid about $1,000.

Prosecutors claim that after he went missing, Magorimbo’s boss received a mobile phone text message demanding a US$5,000 ransom for his release.

On the same day, DJ Munya, allegedly went to Magorimbo’s Harare flat where he told his wife, Millicent, that her husband would return home the following day and ordered her not to report the matter to the police.

The next day, according to Millicent, a naked Magorimbo with hands tied together by a shoe-lace, staggered into the ground floor of their apartment building where he later collapsed.

He was rushed to West End Hospital where, later, died the same day. A post-mortem examination established that he had died from poisoning.
