Chelsea keen on testing Fergie's replacement following Wayne Rooney's transfer request

Soon-to-be Manchester United manager David Moyes faces a fight to keep Wayne Rooney out of Chelsea clutches, after the striker slapped in his second transfer request in three years.
Reports claim the England international held a meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson two weeks ago, and informed him of his desire to quit after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford following the arrival of Robin van Persie.
The Scot, who has announced his decision to retire as Red Devils boss, rejected the request, and a United statement insisted Rooney – who asked to leave three years ago only to perform a U-turn and sign a new £250,000-a-week contract – was ‘not for sale'.
However, it's understood Chelsea are still keen to lure the 27-year-old to Stamford Bridge, and are willing to test the resolve of Moyes, who is expected to be confirmed as Ferguson's replacement with a £25million bid.
Moyes has already sold Rooney once before – to United in 2004 – and has endured a fractious relationship with the striker ever since.
The Everton boss held a meeting with Bill Kenwright in London last night to discuss his future, and while the Toffees chairman insists no deal has yet struck with Manchester United, he acknowledged there's not much he can do to keep the Scot at Goodison Park.
‘I don't know about a deal being done,' Kenwright told Sky Sports News. ‘David had a meeting scheduled with me and we've just had a good meeting.
‘I think, at the end of the day, David's contract is up in six weeks' time and he has a right to make his own decisions.
‘He's served this club wonderfully well.'
