Manchester City lost a shocking Premier League match by 3-1 to Tottenham Hotspur, virtually handing the league title to Manchester United but calling their own reputation into question.
But the manner of the loss Sunday left a pall over City's hopes to win the FA Cup. Allowing all three goals in just seven minutes of the final 15 minutes of the match was a shock to City fans.
Manchester City scored first, as Samir Nasry tucked away a shot to the bottom left corner of the goal after his four and a half minutes.
Seventy minutes later, Clint Dempsey came into the box and fired into the same bottom left corner of the same net to tie the match.
Four minutes later, Jermain Defoe made it 2-1 with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.
And three minutes after that, Spurs struck for a third time, as Gareth Bale, largely unmarked, slipped in a ball from deep inside the area, into the centre of the goal.
Manchester City were unbeaten in their last five meetings with Spurs, a record for the fixture.
Nobody at City was holding out any real hope, however. Rather, the team hoped to build a surge of momentum which will sweep Wigan away in the FA Cup final.
