POLICE yesterday said they were still looking for a commuter omnibus driver who ran over a Form Four pupil Jocelyn Gomba ,17, and Odwell Mabanga ,35, recently.
Gomba died on the spot while Mabanga sustained serious spinal injuries and died a day later at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. The two were run over by a commuter omnibus from an illegal rank near the entrance of Harare Girls High School, where Gomba was a pupil.
Police recently questioned the owner of the kombi, Albert Guyo of Southlea Park in Harare South and he gave them information that Wadzanayi Mabika (41) of Plot 2 Nyabira was the driver.
They discovered that Mabika had one year four months driving experience after obtaining his licence in 2015.
In an interview yesterday, Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said the driver was still on the run and his whereabouts are still not known.
“We are still appealing to anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the driver to contact any nearest police station or the National Complaints Desk on (04) 703631,” she said.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba expressed concern over some members of the public who were blaming the police over the incident.
She said police officers were enforcing the law when the kombi driver decided to drive along a one way.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba warned all those who were breaking the law that the police will not hesitate to arrest them.
