A police officer on duty guarding Macro Economic Planning and Investment Promotion Minister Obert Mpofu's Harare home, was shot by a fellow policeman who wanted to see his girlfriend at the residence.
It is alleged that Constable Lloyd Salobe, 29, stormed into the guard room on October 30 last year, where Constable Hazel Mutasa was stationed.
Salobe was wearing a face mask and armed with an AK47 rifle. He ordered Mutasa to surrender, but that led to a scuffle, leading to Salobe firing shots, hitting Mutasa on the abdomen.
Salobe then traced back his steps to where he was stationed in an attempt to cover up his tracks.
It is alleged that he tore his uniform using thrones, and cried for help saying he had been attacked.
Salobe claimed that the assailant who attacked him, took his gun and returned it without two rounds.
Investigations revealed that Salobe was making a false report after the face mask was recovered at his station.
Mutasa was hospitalised and made a full recovery.
The minister was not in any danger during the two incidents. Salobe was remanded in custody and his trial will start on March 22.
