UNSUSPECTING vegetable-shoppers at the market, on Wednesday, received an early Christmas hot-stuff bottle present from tentacao and double punch vendors who were calling it quits.
The seemingly-thoughtful vendors revealed that they decided to donate their wares to the public after they noticed that their previously thriving hot-stuff was fetching less money.
Visibly discouraged vendors, who spoke to this paper, revealed that their hot- stuff had been offset by beer prices which crumbled to $1, persuading their cheap Mozambique import to lose customers radically.
Tonderai Zvenyika, who has been in the business for six years revealed that the rapid customer down-turn had made his business less enterprising saying, "it's bad business for our Mozambican hot stuff. We have lost a lot of customers and this is the first time to experience this.
This is the only worst Christmas season in my life," said the vendor.
"This week a few bottles have been bought, revealed the enraged salesman, who added that the cost of tentacao and double punch had as well collapsed to a dollar from one dollar, R2, revealed the broke vendor.
The vendors revealed that their loss of profits had robbed them of their livelihoods as the illegal business was their only source of income.
Delighted vegetable shoppers at the market, soaked with joy, as lucky ones got away with four to five bottles which they said would be resold back home. One of the lucky vegetable shoppers, Shepherd Ndabambi, from Nkulumane 12 revealed that "times are hard for all businesses and closing shops is not ideal.
However, I will resale these bottles for $2 in my neighbourhood, said the man who instantly shoved the bottles into his satchel and vanished into the blues.
