A TAXI driver has landed himself in trouble as he has been dragged to court by his pregnant girlfriend on allegations that he deliberately infected her with HIV.
Oliver Moyo (27) of ZRP Old Camp in Gwanda Town and is employed as a taxi driver at Godyo Taxis has been taken to court by his girlfriend, accusing him of knowingly infecting her with HIV.
The two fell in love in March this year but it is alleged Moyo did not disclose his HIV status to his partner. Their first sexual encounter was in a bushy area in Gwanda Town. It is further alleged that Moyo had sexual intercourse with his girlfriend on several occasions without using any protection until she fell pregnant.
The matter came to light when the complainant fell sick and had boils on her right armpit.
She also started spending most of her time sleeping even during the day, which worried her mother.
In July, the complainant disclosed to her cousin that she was two months pregnant.
She revealed that it was Moyo who was responsible for the pregnancy.
As a result, the complainant's mother noticed that her child's health continued to deteriorate forcing her to take her for medical examination.
On 27 August, the woman's mother took her to the clinic for an HIV test and the results revealed that she was HIV positive. She told her mother everything that had happened and the two went and reported the matter to the police leading to Moyo's arrest.
Moyo was also taken for an HIV test at Gwanda Provincial Hospital and the results came out positive as well.
Moyo appeared before Gwanda magistrate Sheila Nazombe last week but was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to tomorrow for trial at the regional court.
Jefta Nyikadzinashe represented the State.
