At least three people - including a 10-month-old infant and two teenagers aged 10 and 17- died in a knife attack on a Henan bus on Monday afternoon, according to Chinese media reports.
The male suspect remains at large as of Tuesday morning.
The violent assault happened around 3pm when a knife-weilding man, who smelled of alcohol, boarded a bus travelling from downtown Anyang county to Beiguo village, said witnesses.
The man started attacking passengers, many of whom were asleep, as soon as he boarded the bus.
There were 33 passengers on board and the rampage left 15 injured, among them the driver, ticket seller, as well as young and adult passengers.
They were rushed to nearby hospitals. Three of the victims, who received serious injuries, later died.
The male suspect ran off and was seen fleeing into a corn field.
The suspect has been described as about 1.65 metres tall, with very short hair and in his late 20s.
Henan police have offered a 100,000 yuan (US$16,000) reward for anyone with valuable information.
