A man from Madlambuzi area in Plumtree, Zimbabwe, has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for kidnapping, raping and attempting to kill his ex-girlfriend.
The incident happened sometime in 2009 but the culprit, Mongameli Ncube was arrested recently after evading the law for three years.
The state led by Mr Tinashe Dzipe told the court that Ncube went to Nsubula village and forcibly took her away to his place of residence.
The state was also told that on that night, Ncube forced himself onto his former girlfriend who cannot be named for legal reasons.
The following day, he took her to Botswana where he raped her twice.
After that, Ncube drove his former girlfriend to Maitengwe River, chocked her with the intention of killing her.
He then stabbed her with a sharp object and left her unconscious.
Ncube appeared before Bulawayo Provincial magistrate, Judith Zulu to answer a charge of kidnapping, three counts of rape and an attempted murder charge.
Of the 42 years, two years were for kidnapping, each count of rape was handed 10 years in prison and for attempted, he was also slapped with 10 years.
One year, five years and four years were suspended on kidnapping, rape and attempted murder respectively on condition that he does not commit crimes of similar nature within five years.
