Five angry residents from Khayelitsha emptied containers filled sewage on the door steps of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature in South Africa.
Police had to lock themselves inside the building for more than an hour to avoid the fury of the people.
SA National Civic Organisation member, Songezo Mvandaba, said: “After 20 years of so-called freedom we still live in shacks and still use buckets. We want the Premier to see what it feels like to live in shit for months. We have been protesting for the past three months but no one from the City has ever come to us and told us what they were going to do about it”
ANC member, Andile Lili, said: “This is only the beginning. We will continue to make this town stink until we get answers.
Premier Helen Zille’s spokesman, Zak Mbhele said: “We are analysing camera footage to identify the culprits and we will be pressing criminal charges.
“This is yet another example of the ungovernability tactics the ANC Youth League and its cadres are using ahead of next year’s election.”
Two weeks ago, buckets of human waste were thrown over the busy N2 highway.
