Pupils at Mathipe High School, in Marite, South Africa believe some black cats have been sent to kill them.
The big black cat sat at the school gates staring with fiery red eyes at pupils and refused to move last Friday morning.
It took several pupils half-an-hour to chase it away.
They then found another black cat in the accounting classroom, and this one could not be scared away.
It charged at the pupils who screamed and stampeded out of the school premises.
Now the kids are scared to go back to school.
Police spokesman Colonel Leonard Hlathi said cops were sent to the school to restore order but the cats had vanished.
Pupils have boycotted classes since their accounting teacher was transferred to another school more than a month ago.
One pupil told Daily Sun: "We haven't been taught accounting since our teacher left and nobody has been brought in to replace her.
"We will be writing our mid-year exams and we don't know if we will make it without her guidance."
Education spokesman Jasper Zwane said the department will send a team to assess the situation at the school.
A solution to the accounting vacancy may be reached today.
