CAPE TOWN - Police in South Africa on Thursday said a 20-year-old woman who was found naked in a field over the weekend has died.
The woman was reportedly found alive but naked in an open field in the Overberg town.
Swellendam police said the woman had been visiting friends and was allegedly attacked while walking in an isolated area.
She passed away several hours later in hospital as she had been found lying in water.
"She didn’t have any visible injuries although she was found naked. She was taken to hospital and the doctor could not say whether she was raped. They were treating her for some respiratory problems that she had. We presume it could have been caused by the water she was found in," police told Eye Witness News.
Her body was later transported to Worcester where they conducted an autopsy which revealed she had been raped.
