Four people have been arrested after a baby was thrown on a fire in the belief it was the antichrist.
The three-day-old baby was taken to a hill and thrown into a bonfire - allegedly with the approval of mum Natalia Guerra, 25.
She has been arrested along with three members of a sect that believed the end of the world was coming.
Police investigator Miguel Ampuero said: "Then they placed her on a board. After calling on the spirits they threw her on the bonfire alive."
Authorities in the town of Colliguay, Chile said the 12-member sect was formed in 2005 and led by Ramon Gustavo Castillo Gaete.
"Everyone in this sect was a professional," Mr Ampuero said.
"We have someone who was a veterinarian and who worked as a flight attendant, we have a film-maker, a draftsman.
"Everyone has a university degree."
Police said Castillo Gaete, 36, remains at large and was last seen travelling to Peru to buy ayahuasca, a hallucinogenic plant he used to control members of the sect.
