Bernard Gatsi from Harare yesterday lost a bid to evict his three married sons.
He had taken them to court seeking an eviction order.
Gatsi also unsuccessfully applied for a protection order against his sons Elvis, Blessing and Evans.
“The three are my sons and I have failed to stay with them. They are all married and Blessing has a wife who is sick at the moment and I am afraid she will die at my house.
“His wife’s relatives are coming to my house to cause havoc and I am buying food for my three sons and their wives.
“I earn US$38 per week and they look up to me to buy food for them and pay water bills which are currently in excess of US$1 000.
“They evicted my tenants who used to give me money and are even eating the food I buy for my wife.
“I am now fed up to see 10 people eating from the small pot I am supposed to cook food to eat with my wife,” Bernard said.
In their responses, the sons said they were staying in the other rooms at the house as per their mother’s command.
“Our parents divorced and shared rooms and we are taking care of her.
“She is paralysed and our father was not taking care of her since 2007.
“She needs exercises, money for medication and food which we are providing.
“We are not all formally employed.”
Magistrate Ms Vongai Muchuchuti asked Bernard’s ex-wife, Betty Gwekwerere to testify.
“My children’s wives eloped at the same time and I have no problem in them staying in my rooms.
“I want my children out of the house when they are employed because they are helping me with everything,” Betty said.
Ms Muchuchuti dismissed the application and said Bernard cannot evict them since they are not staying in his rooms.
“He cannot evict them since they are not staying in his rooms. I am ordering the three to pay utility bills and help their father,” she ruled.
