Stars from South Africa's soap, Generations were kicked out of troubled Tlokwe by angry residents.
Four characters from Generations: Phenyo, Jason, Senzo and Nicholas were there to support the ANC in the by-election.
However, community members started to stone them and their boss Mfundi Vundla is now angry with them and wants answers.
Mfundi said: "They have upset our viewers in Tlokwe and I'm very unhappy with what went down in the name of Generations.
"They should have known there is protocol that needs to be followed," Mfundi fumed.
A studio insider said: "They've messed up and they must pray to save their jobs."
At Tlokwe, a councillor, who did not want to be named, said: "ANC brought the actors to Tlokwe to win back the hearts of Tlokwe residents.
"The stars were given ANC T-shirts to wear and they were told to distribute T-shirts to the community," he said.
The Dailysun reports that the local community threw stones when they saw the soap stars because they believe that the ANC council failed to provide service delivery in their area.
A resident, who didn't want to be named, said: "Some guys were saying, ha re ba trapeng (let's moer them).
"They can't convince us to support the ANC. They're also stupid by allowing ANC to use them. What kind of actors are they who get into to bed with a political party?" asked the angry resident.
"Some of us are DA and EFF supporters and we love Generations. But for them to come and undermine us is total nonsense."
Nicholas said he loves his ANC, and campaigned for the councillor of Ward 9.
He said: "We went there to canvass for the by-elections in the municipality. We're aware of the problems in Tlokwe. In an unsettled area you'll find those who are unhappy with the government."
Senzo, Phenyo and Jason had switched off their phones.
Six years ago, Sophie Ndaba and Connie Ferguson were reprimanded by Vundla after it was discovered that they used their character names in community beauty pageant.
