ECONET Wireless has issued a press statement distancing their Group Chairman, Strive Masiyiwa from seemingly political Facebook pages which are putting Masiyiwa as a potential 2018 Presidential candidate.
The Facebook pages have been gunning considerable following from social media users.
Econet argued that the accounts were a "fake", claiming that imposters had created them.
One of the pages put Masiyiwa as President of a political party called Liberty Party.
Part of the press statement said " Mr Strive Masiyiwa is not in any way associated with the page."
Econet claimed the issue has since been reported to Facebook, with hopes that the accounts and pages will be deleted.
Zim Metro conducted a survey on social media and noted that more accounts are sprouting on Facebook implying that Masiyiwa had ventured into politics. Search results conducted on the survey are published below.
