The awards celebrate 'the individual who, for better or worse, has had the most influence on events of the year gone by' and Forbes Africa has welcomed the participation of the public.

Following suggestions from the public, the top five most voted for candidates will be posted online in a poll and comprise a portion of what will be the judges of the Person of the Year Awards' final decision.

Commenting on the awards, Chris Bishop, Forbes Africa's editor says: "Every year, people across Africa look forward to the Forbes Africa Person of the Year Awards. We think this year will be no different.

"The great thing for me as a journalist is that people have a chance to nominate and vote for the Person of the Year online, which always creates excitement and interaction with our growing army of readers."
