Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko has castigated the Anti-Corruption Commission as being corrupt and made up of sinister officials who are wanted for crimes they committed in foreign countries.
Speaking in Bulawayo yesterday, the Vice President said it was sad that some officials in the Anti-Corruption Commission were corrupt people who did not deserve to be part of that commission.
"There are some officials who ran away from Namibia and South Africa after they committed crimes. They will be arrested if they go back to those countries but they have positions in the Anti-Corruption Commission. Such a commission will never be effective.
"It's not healthy for the country. It destroys the economy. It's like a teacher, someone who is trusted by parents, raping school children," said VP Mphoko.
Corruption levels within the country's parastatals are feared to be draining the economy of much needed revenue.
VP Mphoko said it was important for leaders in the country, senior officials in the Government, parastatals and the private sector to declare their assets for the sake of transparency.
The Anti-Corruption Commission has been caught in running battles with government bigwigs, with the commission recently requesting powers to make arrests if they found anyone in the wrong.
