PRIMARY and Secondary Education Minister Dr Lazarus Dokora has come out guns blazing to refute allegations circulating that he sacked scripture unions at schools because he is a not a Christian.
Speaking at the launch of the National Schools Feeding Programme at Mpumelelo Primary School in Bulawayo last Friday, Dokora rejected claims that he was a Muslim who was working to undo Christian activities in schools.
Dokora, who has gained fame for his bizzare policies said he is a Catholic, putting to rest speculation on social media that he was Muslim.
Social media was rife with messages claiming Dr Dokora was Muslim and had allegedly banned Scripture Union in schools and his faith was behind the introduction of the national school pledge.
He said there were parents who were also wrongly claiming that the national pledge had replaced the Bible.
“You have your national anthem and the school kids go through their school pledge, the national schools pledge has not replaced the scriptures or prayer at assembly.”
He went on to claim that social media was painting a wrong image about him.
“In other words, these myths are created in the cyber colonies and then propagated by persons who find a lot of time in their idle space to propagate them,” said Dr Dokora.
