HARARE- Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) secretary-general Victor Matemadanda has been reportedly arrested in what is believed to be a crack down on ‘rebel’ war veterans who president Robert Mugabe threatened to severely punish for opposing him.
According to reports, vocal Matemadanda was allegedly nabbed by five police officers from his Gokwe home early this morning and taken to Harare's Law and Order section.
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), said Matemadanda was likely to be charged with subverting a constitutionally-elected government.
Another ‘errant’ war veteran Douglas Mahiya who is the veterans spokesperson handed himself to law enforcers yesterday after armed State agents rounded his Chitungwiza home.
Addressing war veterans yesterday Mugabe vowed to brutally deal with war veterans who wrote a controversial communiqué calling on him to step down.
