HIGHLANDERS fans have been advised against raising expectations about the team’s championship chase following their rampaging 4-1 win over premiership debutants Ngezi Platinum last Saturday, as this could put the players under unnecessary pressure.

The Bulawayo giants got their goals through youngster Prince Dube’s brace, Erick Mudzingwa, who made his first league start this season, and Rahman Kutsanzira.

Dube and his striking partner Knox Mutizwa are now the league’s joint leading goal scorers with four goals from six matches.

Bosso coach Erol Akbay said it was still too early into the season to start talking about the league title.

“We still have 24 games to play and our supporters have to wait and remain humble, but continue urging the boys on. The season is still very long but it’s good that supporters want something and we’ve to give it to them, although we must remain realistic too,” said Akbay.

Despite issuing the warning, Akbay also hinted on the championship possibilities.

“We’ve to win every match we play because we’re Highlanders. Highlanders is a big club and must play for nothing but the championship,” he said.

Bosso briefly shot to the top of the league table after their demolition of Ngezi Platinum before FC Platinum’s 1-0 win over disjointed Harare giants Dynamos the following day deposed the Bulawayo side.

FC Platinum have now gone on a 27-match unbeaten run in the league from last season and lead Bosso by three points.

Highlanders, who registered their first back-to-back wins of the season, return to Barbourfields Stadium this weekend for a clash against struggling Harare City, while FC Platinum are at home to winless Border Strikers, who have lost all their six matches and remain the only team without a goal.

For Bulawayo football fans though, league action explodes on Saturday afternoon when Tsholotsho host Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium.
