Caster Semenya has been through a very troubled period after she was sidelined with an injury for months.
But her coach, Maria Mutola, is upbeat and is now planning to launch Semenya back into the competitive world of athletics.
Mutola said the athlete has recovered fully from her knee injury.
Semenya impressed Mutola when she powered her way to the highest place on the podium in the 800m event with a time of one hour, 58 minutes and 93 seconds at the World Challenge in Rieti, Italy, two weeks ago.
Semenya was also hurt when she was excluded from the Operation Excellence programme (Opex) by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc).
The Opex programme assists athletes financially to qualify for the Olympic Games, to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2016.
Mutola said Semenya is over that disappointment and wants to prove Sascoc and her critics wrong.
She also predicted that Semenya will be a Commonwealth Games champion in Glasgow, Scotland, next year.
Mutola said: "Semenya's injury was the hardest period of her career.
"But now that she has got past that stage, nothing will stop her from winning gold at major events next season.
"Those who think she is finished had better think again. Caster's best is yet to come. She'll make a strong statement next season."
Semenya has just completed her season, but in few weeks' time she'll start training to prepare for the new season.
The loss of almost all of the past season to injury resulted in the athlete failing to qualify for the world championships in Moscow, Russia, last month.
Mutola said that at times Semenya broke into tears but she kept reminding her that she is the next Olympic champion.
"What she has to do is focus because she wants to be an Olympic champion.
"If she continues to train like she has been doing recently, it will happen.
"She was crying as she was struggling to recover and that explains how badly she wants to succeed," Mutola added.
