A 33-YEAR-OLD Epworth woman has been slapped with a nine-year jail term after she was convicted of sexually abusing her landlady's 12-year-old son.
Chipo Mbaura was convicted of aggravated indecent assault by magistrate, Hosea Mujaya, who suspended three years of her sentence on condition of good behaviour.
In her defence she said she had consensual intercourse with the minor, however, she will spend an effective six years behind bars.
The court heard Mbaura had been abusing the boy since January.
Her offence was revealed by her drunken sister after she came home shouting obscenities.
Prosecutor Ephraim Zinyandu proved Mbaura first lured the juvenile into her room on an unknown date in January, when they were alone at home.
The court heard she undressed herself and made the boy sit on her lap, while she kissed and caressed his body.
Mbaura then allegedly laid the boy on a mattress before she abused him once without protection.
Following this, the State alleges Mbaura would on different occasions invite the boy into her room whenever she felt like having sexual intercourse.
Sometime last month, Mbaura came home drunk in company of her sister shouting obscenities.
The juvenile complainant went on to reprimand her, but this angered Mbaura's sister, who was also drunk.
The court heard Mbaura's sister then told the boy to keep quiet, saying he had no right to reprimand her because he once had sexual intercourse with her sister.
That was how the boy's mother learnt of the abuse and reported the matter to the police leading to Mbaura's arrest.
