Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe yesterday sugar coated the military and the country's security services with praises of their 'commendable work' in a bid to sway their support to his corner.
President Mugabe is currently battling to keep top army officials, who are also war veterans in his corner.
Addressing thousands of people gathered at the national shrine to mark the Heroes’ Day, President Mugabe said the security forces continued to raise the country’s flag high.
“When all is said and done, what is important is, in our circumstances, we have peace, law and order. And we praise our security forces for that,” said President Mugabe.
“We praise them for the calm there has been, the peace there has been.”
President Mugabe, who is known for scoring political agendas when giving speeches in public gatherings is expected to continue his appeal to the army's loyalty today when he graces the Defence forces day celebrations.
Fears have been relayed that the fallout between President Mugabe and his long time partners, the war veterans would stretch out into the army as a large number of top brass officials are also war veterans.
