Government has taken steps in avoiding a second civil servant strike, with the recent move being the meeting between Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Prisca Mupfumira and trade union umbrella, APEX council.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Mupfumira warned civil servants against embarking on illegal industrial action.
Civil servants resorted to go on strike following failure by government to pay their June salaries within their month of service.
She said while Government workers had a constitutional right to strike, such actions should be undertaken procedurally.
Minister Mupfumira said the strike was illegal as negotiation channels had not been exhausted.
“There were supposed to be four meetings ending in a deadlock and moreover they were supposed to give us notice of their intention to strike, but that was not the case,” she said.
Civil servants have been echoing threats on a possible second strike if their dues are not met in time.
